Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I sign up to be a volunteer?

Here is a quick overview of the steps to volunteering:

1. Fill out the Volunteer Portal online application

2. Make sure to fill out what programs (schools) you would like and any skills or causes you are interested in. In addition, sign the volunteer agreement under “qualifications”.

3. Fill out a CORI and turn it in, along with having your ID scanned, at a Barnstable Public School or the FCEC (141 Bassett Ln, Hyannis) - you will be pending until your application is sent through the central registry (usually 1-3 days)

4. If you are approved, you will receive an email saying you are qualified, and you will be able to look at any open opportunities.

5. Schools will be able to see your approved application after the previous steps are completed.

The FCEC is open Monday-Friday 9:00am-400pm at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center to run CORI/ID checks and the local schools are open during their typical hours.

2. How can I find volunteer opportunities?

We just started using the Volunteer Portal at the end of the 2024-2025 school year, so schools are learning how to update and post opportunities. If you don't see a volunteer opportunity you are interested in, feel free to click on the "programs" tab, find a school you'd like to volunteer at, and call or email the contact on that page.

3. I can't see any open volunteer opportunities. What should I do?

If you can't see any open opportunities, you may not be fully qualified to volunteer in Barnstable schools, yet. There are four parts to becoming a volunteer.

1. Create an account at mybps.galaxydigital.com

2. Fill out a CORI form at the FCEC (M-F, 9-4, inside the HYCC, 141 Bassett Ln, Hyannis, MA 02601) or a Barnstable Public School during school hours.

3. Have us scan your CORI and ID

4. Sign your user agreement in your Volunteer Portal. (If you try to click on an opportunity, it should bring you to the page to click to sign the agreement.)
